Don’t Use Windows Update to Install Hardware Drivers
Posted October 26, 2008
The Windows Update utility sometime lists drivers for your hardware as well as Windows patches. While it’s handy to get your drivers from one place, Windows Update doesn’t always list the right drivers for your computer.
I have seen people screw up their audio drivers because Windows Update listed the wrong ones and I have also had a few drivers that screwed up the Windows boot sequence.
If you are looking for drivers for your computer, look up your computer model from your computer maker’s website to find your drivers, or use the CD’s provided with your computer or hardware/peripheral.
Don’t rely on Windows Update for hardware drivers, it is right some of time but the wrong driver could give you minor to serious headaches.
