Using Safe Mode to Remove Fake Anti-Spyware

Safe Mode

So you’ve been infected with a fake anti-spyware. You have list of files to delete and your antivirus/anti-spyware is rearing to go. Now if only your computer wasn’t running so slowly that you could watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy in the time it takes you to open a folder.

Safe Mode is what you need: Safe Mode loads Windows with the minimum components Windows needs to start. Luckily Windows isn’t dependent on the fake anti-spyware that’s slowing down your computer.

There’s no need to download safe mode, it’s part of Windows so it’s already installed on your computer.

When you start up your computer, hold down F8 until a selection menu appears. When it does, press the down arrow key until “Safe Mode with Networking” is selected, and then hit Enter. You will be asked what operating system you want to boot to, most people will just only have one so just press Enter again.

After some loading, you will be asked for your password if you have one. After that a message will appear asking if you want to use safe mode, Click yes. You are now in safe mode so you can delete the fake antivirus files with no problems.

If you have one, launch your antivirus/anti-spyware program. (If you don’t have one, may I suggest Spyware Doctor? End sales pitch.) Do an update, run a scan and when it’s finished, tell it to delete what it has found.

We are now done with safe mode so restart your computer like you normally do. Once you’re back in your hopefully faster Windows, do another scan to make sure the infection is completely gone.

If you have any problems, please leave a comment.
