XP Virus Protection

Posted February 17, 2009

XP Virus Protection is an nasty new fake antivirus program that wants to con you out of your money.

It never ceases to amaze me that even though Vista has been out for a few years now, scammers still insist on using “XP” in their titles.

XP Virus Protection doesn’t protect your computer. It just slows down your computer and sends you you fake alerts for threats that aren’t even on your computer to try and trick you into buying the “full” version.

There are no manual removal instructions for XP Virus Protection at the moment so for now look in your Program Files folder and delete any folder saying “XP Virus Protection”. This will not completely remove the infection so use Spyware Doctor to remove the remaining XP Virus Protection files from your computer as well as the Trojan that put it on your computer in the first place.

(FYI: for some links to software we receive a commission. This is one of them. But we wouldn’t recommend Spyware Doctor if we didn’t think it would help.)
